The New Hanover County public library system is split into four branches, which includes the Main branch at 201 Chestnut St., the Northeast Regional Library at 1241 Military Cutoff Rd., the Myrtle Grove Library at 5155 South College Rd., and the Carolina Beach library at 300 Cape Fear Blvd. Hours of operation are as follows:
For the Main, Northeast Regional, and Myrtle Grove Branches:
Monday & Tuesday: 9am-8pm
Wednesday & Thursday: 9am-6pm
Friday & Saturday: 9am-5pm
Closed Sundays
For the Carolina Beach Branch:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday: 9am-1pm
Tuesday & Thursday: 1pm-5pm

Library Cards
How to Get a Library Card
To obtain a library card, simply visit any of the four library locations with a photo identification card and proof of residency (such as a bill). Cards are free to New Hanover County residents, but non-residents are required to pay a minimal charge. Students in institutions of higher education are also eligible for cards, and should be sure to bring along a current student I.D. to any location branch.
Library Card Privileges
A library card allows you to check out books, audio books, videos, DVDs, and other materials free of charge. You can loan up to 25 items at a time, each of which can be kept for three weeks. If you borrow an item for more than three weeks, though, late fees will be assigned and you will not be able to check out any additional items until they are paid. In addition to renting items, you are also allowed access to the library’s public computers for a maximum of two hours a day, or you can take advantage of unlimited free Wi-Fi. Each library branch also offers fax, printing, and copying services. Outgoing faxes cost $1 per page, black and white copies cost 15 cents per page, and prints cost 10 cents per page if they are black and white and 30 cents per page if they are in color.
Other Services
In addition to those listed, New Hanover County public libraries also offer additional services, such as meeting room rentals, local historical documents, consumer health information, a public law library, and several free monthly book clubs.
